I’m really starting to enjoy this footballing lark, even if I do seem to pick up a different injury every time I play. I’m still a rank amateur and one of the weaker players, but I think I’ve found my niche – right-back.
In my youth I’d have never considered myself a defender. Not that I really played much footy at all, but when I did I preferred to strut my ungainly frame around somewhere in the midfield. I wasn’t particularly strong and my slim frame wouldn’t have helped a great deal in defence. I’m hardly a fatty now but I have filled out a bit and gained a bit more strength, even if I’m still a bit of a weakling compared to most. I’ve found that I can quite successfully get in the way of the younger, and generally fitter, players from the opposing team
