Toronto has a rich multiculturalism thing going on. There are all sorts of ethnic groups around here – at least four Chinatowns and a Little Italy – plus a strong Caribbean influence in parts.
Today I have had a delicious introduction to a part of the Jamaican (or thereabouts) influence by getting takeout Jerk Chicken from our local Caribbean food joint. It was spicier than I thought it would be, which irritated the crap out of my sore throat, but it was totally delicious. Jerk Chicken with rice and peas. Hmmmm.
I was going to try the Curried Goat or Jerk Pork. Maybe next time.
Other activities enjoyed today included shopping downtown (we took the subway this time, not least because my sister and youngest niece came with me) and found one or two bargains. Then we enjoyed watching the kids fill themselves up with sand at the park.
No doubt some beer will be involved tonight, but not much as we’re getting a bit low. Tomorrow sees me going out with brother-in-law Phil to watch the first Hockey game of the NHL season at some pub somewhere. I’m guessing large quantities of alcoholic beverages will be consumed then!
