My commute usually involves a walk along the canal. On a nice day this is a lovely way to spend 20 minutes or so. There’s plenty of waterfowl, narrow boats and pretty vegetation along the way.
I also like many of the more industrial elements next to the canal. A bit of grit and grim looks great in photography, and there’s plenty of that to look at too, including some impressively creative graffiti.
This is one of my favourite parts – a concrete wall. Don’t ask me why, but I like the texture and the reflections in the water.
I’m still learning the best ways of converting some of these images to black and white, and I don’t think this one is particularly successful. It’s taking a while, but even though some of these images aren’t the best I’m learning quite a bit about the limitations and possibilities with square, black and white photography.
